Introduction to Laser Cutting – Weekend – 21+22 Sept
Do you want to explore inventing and creating with lasers? Then our Introduction to Laser Cutting Course is for you and will cover everything you need to get started.
Join our tutor Aidan on this weekend course over 2 days to learn how to master software and materials with our laser cutting and engraving equipment to create new designs and products.
Materials are included in the cost of the workshop and no experience is necessary.
We are fully inclusive and all skill levels (Adult 18+) are welcome, however, please note that this course requires hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow precise instructions with regards to safety.
Here's what you'll Need:
Basic computer literacy skills are essential for a meaningful experience.
Participants must bring their own laptop with a vector graphic package installed. We recommend InkScape, which is free and open source, but Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw will work as well.
Here's what you'll Learn:
How does a laser cutter work and what are the safety precautions that must be taken?
What materials can you cut and what kind of results can you expect?
File preparation - how do you create or obtain vector graphics to cut, and how do you convert between different file formats?
Here's what you'll Achieve:
A project you’d like to tackle from start to finish using the laser cutter as a tool.
This course is a prerequisite pathway for using the laser cutter independently in benchspace Cork, if you have no prior experience with lasers.
Here's the Small Print:
In order to use our laser cutter independently you must be cleared by our staff for unsupervised use. This is achieved by Induction, which can be booked after completion of the course and tests the skills acquired.
From this Induction, benchspace Cork has the right to decide if someone would benefit from further supervision to fill in knowledge gaps before independent use is approved, to ensure safe working practice and optimising the users time with the laser cutter.
Here's Where to Go:
This class is held in our B1b unit located at Eircode T12 KRH7.
Here's what to Wear:
Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewellery and don’t forget to tie back long hair. Closed toe shoes are required on all of our workshop floors. If you need glasses for close up work, don't forget to bring them.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE will be provided by benchspace for all courses that require it. It must be worn as directed. All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
Please read our terms and conditions here before booking.
