This bite-sized beginner class aims to teach students how to hang a shelf. Under the guidance of the tutor Elaine McFerran, participants will get hands on with the tools and in small groups they will get to try out the tools involved and hang a shelf, troubleshooting as they go.
Begin by talking about different wall construction methods and materials that are typically used in housing in Ireland.
Go through a few tips and tricks to try and work out whether a wall is load bearing or whether it is more likely to be a stud partition.
Touch on older methods and newer technologies in the construction industry.
Look at multiple different fixings and talk about their pros and cons, and the benefit of using different methods for different materials.
Go through the practical steps of hanging a shelf, tips and tricks on how to accurately mark when to place your chosen fixings, easiest order in which to undertake the process, and pitfalls to try and avoid.
