Rising Sparks is a benchspace programme which supports the transition of Cork-based individuals from marginalised or economically disadvantaged communities into long term artistic and creative livelihoods. This structured programme is an opportunity for hands-on learning with potential to spark a creative career. It offers new opportunities and resources that may not otherwise be within reach and is supported by the Cork Arts Fund, through the Community Foundation for Ireland.
The programme consists of three phases oriented around woodworking, jewellery making and laser cutting:
> Phase 1 will see participants EXPLORE a range of disciplines through an introductory single day workshop in which participants will complete a small project to take away at the end of the class.
> Phase 2 are for those thirsty to LEARN more by developing their skills through a weekend, multi-week long course.
> Phase 3 will see 5 participants awarded a 1 year Residency and €3,000 stipend to CREATE and develop their making practice, supported through the benchspace community and facilities.
At present, the Rising Sparks Programme has seen several dozen people come through both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the programme and have three Phase 3 Makers in residence for the year. We’re hoping to broaden our reach so please help us spread the word!
Through this programme, we recognise that a broad range of experiences may qualify as ‘marginalisation’ and ‘economical disadvantage’, so we encouraged anyone interested to share their story with us by applying.
