Tommy Lysaght has been involved with stone for over 20 years, working in dry stone construction and restoration, and has been facilitating groups in stone sculpture for the last 4 years.
Tommy works a wide range of groups, including young people, adult education, and probation-funded services. He is constantly inspired by seeing people overcome their fears of working in such a daunting medium, to the realisation of their ideas in a beautiful natural material.
Participants in this workshop will be guided through the full process of selecting an appropriate stone, finding/creating and transferring their deign to their stone, and learning basic carving techniques.
Depending on their vision for their piece, participants may complete a bass relief name plate or image, or a more abstract sculptural piece, or will be advised on the completion of more ambitious pieces at home.
The group will gather on Friday evening from 7 – 9pm, to generate ideas and select stones, and carving work will begin on Saturday.
All chisels, mallets and tools and will be available for use over the weekend. There will be a wide selection of templates available, or participants are welcome to bring any ideas, drawings or images that have caught their eye.
