What is Benchspace ?

Benchspace is an open access maker space, we currently concentrate on woodwork with a little digital fabrication but are open to exploring hosting all types of makers. We offer space for full time / part time makers as well as offer classes.

We offer 2 free maker sessions a month for our members on Saturday mornings. You can book here

How do I become a member ?

You can sign up for membership here, it costs 51 euro a year, benefits are outlined on the membership page.

What classes do you offer ?

Benchspace Bites : Once a month we offer 4 hour beginner classes for those who are interested in trying woodwork out. No experience is needed.

Evening Courses : We offer a range of evening courses to suit everyone from the complete beginner to those with experience looking to develop their skills.

Special Events: These range from Green Woodworking to Book Making, these tend to be one off full day or weekend long courses covering a specific skill.

Can I use the machinery ?

All machinery requires an safety training and an induction. Unless you have previous formal training we require you to attend an in house training course for the particular machine.

For ease, these are divided into two 10 week courses

  • Machine Making 1: Surfacer, Planer/Thicknesser, Band Saw, Domino
  • Machine Making 2: Router Table & Panel Saw

Following these courses is an assesement on the machinery, if you pass this then you will be able to use the machinery under supervision during our open making sessions.

If you need machining done in the meantime, we offer a machining service to get you started (40 p/h, 30 p/h during Open Making sessions for members)

Can I get materials delivered to Benchspace ?

Unfortunately we don’t currently have storage space for projects / materials and we don’t maintain a presence at the workshop constantly during the week.

Can you supply materials ?

We keep a limited stock of plywood at Benchspace, please contact us for availability.
