Skill Builder Woodturning Workshop – Sharpen your Woodturning Tools – Jul 2026
Skill Builders are in-depth, hands-on courses designed for those ready to dive deeper into a specific craft discipline. Whether you’re developing your skills for personal practice or working toward becoming a Benchspace Maker, these courses and workshops focus on building confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided, project-based learning.
Sharpen Your Edge: Essential Tool Sharpening for Makers
This hands-on workshop is ideal for makers eager to improve their craft by mastering the art of sharpening. Guided by experienced woodturner, Tony Farrell, you’ll spend two hours learning how to sharpen and maintain a range of woodturning tools.
Sharp tools make all the difference to your practice: they cut more accurately, reduce mistakes, improve safety, and allow for quicker, cleaner making. During this class we will introduce safe sharpening techniques, demonstrate the use of stones and honing guides, and share practical tips to keep your edges keen. You’ll finish the session with sharper tools in hand and the confidence to maintain them long after the workshop.
Whether you’re just starting your making journey or looking to refine your technique, this class offers the perfect balance of skill-building, practical knowledge, and the satisfaction of working with tools that perform at their best.
Who can Join: This is an All-Levels class, suitable for Adults 18+. Beginners will gain the confidence to sharpen tools effectively, while more experienced makers will refine their skills. Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow safety instructions are essential.
