Skill Builder Woodturning Workshop – Intro to Lamp Turning – Saturday

Skill Builders are in-depth, hands-on courses designed for those ready to dive deeper into a specific craft discipline.  Whether you’re developing your skills for personal practice or working toward becoming a Benchspace Maker, these courses and workshops focus on building confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided, project-based learning.

Light Up your Skills: Create your own Wooden Lamp
This hands-on workshop is ideal for beginner and novice woodturners keen to learn new techniques while making something practical and unique.  Guided by experienced tutor Tony Farrell, you’ll spend four hours turning and assembling your very own wooden lamp.
Tony will introduce the fundamentals of spindle turning, tool use, and safe workshop practice, giving you the confidence to tackle your first major project on the lathe.  Step by step, you’ll shape your lamp base, refine the details, and prepare it for assembly — leaving with a finished lamp you’ll be proud to display and use at home.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand your woodturning skills, this workshop offers the perfect balance of learning, creativity, and the satisfaction of crafting something beautiful and functional.

Who can Join:  This is a Beginner/Novice-Level class, suitable for Adults 18+.  If you’re new to the craft, our Benchspace Bites woodturning classes are a great place to start.  Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow safety instructions are essential.

What to Wear:  Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewellery and don’t forget to tie back long hair.  Closed toe shoes are required on all of our workshop floors.  If you need glasses for close up work, don’t forget to bring them.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):  PPE will be provided for all courses that require it.  It must be worn as directed.  All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
