Skill Builders are in-depth, hands-on courses designed for those ready to dive deeper into a specific craft discipline.  Whether you’re developing your skills for personal practice or working toward becoming a Benchspace Maker, these courses focus on building confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided, project-based learning.

Improvers in Woodturning
Take your skills to the next level in this 4 week progressionary course, aimed at those who already have woodturning experience and are ready to further develop their skills.
This course provides you the opportunity to gain more experience on the lathe and will build on your existing skills with a focus on new approaches to form, workability of your pieces and surface finish.  Tutor Jerry will guide you through more advanced tool work to expand your confidence and control while encouraging you to explore your own creative direction.
By the end, you’ll not only feel more at home at the lathe – you’ll be equipped with enhanced skills, new techniques, and the confidence to push your woodturning further.

Our woodturning courses are a small-group format, limited to just 5 participants, to ensure plenty of personalised support from your tutor.

Who can Join:  This is a Intermediate-Level Course, ideal if you’ve already completed our Adventures in Woodturning or can have equivalent experience and wish to expand you skills, and is suitable for Adults 18+ of all skill levels.  Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow safety instructions are essential.

Here’s what to Wear:  Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewellery and don’t forget to tie back long hair.  Closed toe shoes are required on all of our workshop floors.  If you need glasses for close up work, don’t forget to bring them.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):  PPE will be provided for all courses that require it.  It must be worn as directed.  All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
