Skill Builders are in-depth, hands-on courses designed for those ready to dive deeper into a specific craft discipline.  Whether you’re developing your skills for personal practice or working toward becoming a Benchspace Maker, these courses focus on building confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided, project-based learning.

Master the Machines, Build your Confidence
Have you completed our Machine Making I course and are ready to progress further?  This 10-week advanced class is designed to challenge your woodworking skills and broaden your confidence on industrial-grade machines through the completion of a more complex project.

Under the guidance of experienced tutor Rod, you’ll craft a finely detailed Console Table, advancing your knowledge of furniture making techniques with greater emphasis on precision, efficiency, and professional finishing.  With continued focus on safe machining practices, including correct setup, safe handling, and PPE use, this course ensures you gain both the technical competence and practical experience needed for advanced furniture making.

Small group sizes — limited to just 6 participants — guarantee dedicated tutor support and time on each machine as you refine your technique and complete a piece of furniture to be proud of.

Who Can Join:  This is an Advanced-Level Course, suitable for Adults 18+ who already have woodwork experience, and are confident and have competence in using both hand and power tools.  If you haven’t completed a Benchspace woodwork course before or are unsure if your existing skills are suitable for this course, please email us at hello@benchspacecork.ie with a brief outline of your experience. Here’s what to Wear:  Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewellery and don’t forget to tie back long hair.  Closed toe shoes are required on all of our workshop floors.  If you need glasses for close up work, don’t forget to bring them.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):  PPE will be provided for all courses that require it.  It must be worn as directed.  All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
