Skill Builder Jewellery Course – Design+Make – Jan 2027

Skill Builders are in-depth, hands-on courses designed for those ready to dive deeper into a specific craft discipline.  Whether you’re developing your skills for personal practice or working toward becoming a Benchspace Maker, these courses focus on building confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided, project-based learning.

Now’s your chance!  Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some jewellery-making experience, our 10-week Design+Make course is the perfect place to build your skills and confidence.

Learn how to design and create your own unique sterling silver jewellery with tutor Nadine.  You’ll start by exploring sources of inspiration and developing your ideas in a sketchbook. and from there, you’ll progress through four mini projects: wire forming, texture exploration, ring making, riveting and sweat soldering.  With these foundational skills under your belt, you’ll use your material budget to design and make a final piece entirely your own, using sterling silver.

Who can Join:  This is a Beginner-Level Course, delivering foundational jewellery-making skills and hands-on experience.  Perfect for complete beginners or someone returning to the craft.  Suitable for Adults 18+ of all skill levels.  Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow safety instructions are essential.

Course Note:  There will be no class on Wednesday, 10 February, and on Wednesday, 17 March.

What’s Included:

What you’ll Learn:

• • Develop and refine jewellery designs
  • Budgeting and material management
  • Use a piercing saw
  • Form and dome metal
  • Wire forming
  • Anneal silver and use a pickle bath
  • Ring soldering
  • Sweat soldering and riveting
  • Metal texturing, using hammers, stamps, and a rolling mill
  • Sand, finish, and polish your pieces

Where to Go:  This class is held in our BS1.5 workshop located at Eircode T12 KRH7.

What to Wear:  Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewellery and don’t forget to tie back long hair.  Closed toe shoes are required on all of our workshop floors.  If you need glasses for close up work, don’t forget to bring them.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):  PPE will be provided for all courses that require it.  It must be worn as directed.  All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
