Skill Builder – Intro to DIY Course – Jul 2025 – Wednesdays

Skill Builders are in-depth, hands-on courses and sessions designed for those ready to dive deeper into a specific craft discipline.  Whether you’re developing your skills for personal practice or working toward becoming a Benchspace Maker, these courses and sessions focus on building confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided, project-based learning.

Tackle DIY Projects at Home with Confidence
Join tutor Liam on this hands-on 5-week course, where you’ll master essential DIY skills using both hand and power tools.  Each week, you’ll build confidence using tools safely and pick up simple techniques to tackle everyday jobs around your home.  With clear guidance and plenty of tips, you’ll gain the skills you need to complete tasks yourself – saving money and becoming more self-reliant along the way.  By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to handle common home projects with confidence and ease.

Who can Join:  This is a Beginner-Level Course, delivering a strong foundation in DIY skills using hand and power tools through hands-on experience, and suitable for Adults 18+ of all skill levels.  Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow safety instructions are essential.

  • Step-by-step instruction
  • Individual support and feedback

Here’s what you’ll Learn:

• • Use basic hand tools and handheld power tools like a drill, sander, and planer
  • Fit and change locks
  • Install skirting boards and architrave
  • Hang bracketed shelves
  • Install floating shelves
  • Secure wardrobes or bookshelves to a supporting wall

Where to Go:  This class is held in our BS1.0 workshop located at Eircode T12 YAE4.

Here’s what to Wear:  Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewellery and don’t forget to tie back long hair.  Closed toe shoes are required on all of our workshop floors.  If you need glasses for close up work, don’t forget to bring them.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):  PPE will be provided for all courses that require it.  It must be worn as directed.  All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
