benchspace Bites are short introductory sessions for beginners designed to provide participants with a taster of our disciplines.
Whether a hobbyist, enthusiast or considering a career in jewellery-making, we will explore fundamental skills and you will create your very own piece in a single class.
This class is suitable for complete beginners, while also serving as a developmental opportunity for those with prior jewellery-making experience looking to build a strong foundation in bezel stone setting techniques
Spend your Saturday morning with tutor Fabio Oliveira and learn to craft your own cabochon gemstone ring set in sterling silver during this 5-hour workshop.
You'll begin by choosing from a selection of beautiful stones—such as chrysocolla, rutilated quartz, carnelian, labradorite, tiger’s eye, moonstone, or larimar. Then, you'll make your band and setting, set your chosen stone, and complete a unique sterling silver ring to take home
Materials are included in the cost of the workshop and no experience is necessary.
We are fully inclusive and all skill levels (Adults 18+) are welcome, however, please note that this course requires hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow precise instructions with regards to safety.Here's what you'll Learn:

How to anneal and quench silver.
How to solder silver.
How to prepare a bezel.

How to file and sand edges.
How to finish and polish your final piece.

Here's what to Wear:
Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewellery and don’t forget to tie back long hair. Closed toe shoes are required on all of our workshop floors. If you need glasses for close up work, don't forget to bring them.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
PPE will be provided by benchspace for all courses that require it. It must be worn as directed. All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
