Skill Builder – Machine Making I Woodwork Course – 4 Legged Stool – Sept 2025
Skill Builders are in-depth, hands-on courses designed for those ready to dive deeper into a specific craft discipline. Whether you’re developing your skills for personal practice or working toward becoming a Benchspace Maker, these courses focus on building confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided, project-based learning.
Ready to Level Up Your Woodworking Skills?
Are you a woodworking enthusiast who wants to learn furniture making and is ready to move beyond hand and power tools to expand your skills with industrial machines? This hands-on, 10-week course is designed for makers like you who want to deepen their furniture-making knowledge while gaining confidence and competence on professional-grade equipment.
Guided by experienced tutor Rod, you’ll craft a beautifully detailed Four-Legged Stool, learning key furniture-making techniques including timber preparation, joinery, shaping, and fine finishing. This course places strong emphasis on safe and efficient workshop practices, with thorough instruction on the use of machines such as the planer, thicknesser, and bandsaw.
With a focus on practical skills and workshop safety, you’ll develop a solid foundation in machine operation and best practice protocols, including correct setup, safe handling, and PPE use. Our small-group format — limited to just 6 participants — ensures plenty of time on each machine and personalised support as you refine your technique and expand your woodworking capabilities.
Who Can Join: This is an Intermediate-Level Course, suitable for Adults 18+ who already have woodwork experience, and are confident and have competence in using both hand and power tools. If you haven’t completed a Benchspace woodwork course before or are unsure if your existing skills are suitable for this course, please email us at hello@benchspacecork.ie with a brief outline of your experience.
