Skill Builders are in-depth, hands-on courses designed for those ready to dive deeper into a specific craft discipline. Whether you’re developing your skills for personal practice or working toward becoming a Benchspace Maker, these courses focus on building confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided, project-based learning.
Interested in traditional hand tool woodworking?
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your understanding of hand tools, this 12-week course is the perfect introduction to traditional frame joinery techniques. Focusing entirely on hand tool use, this course teaches the essential skills needed to build the structural frames that form the backbone of furniture making — such as drawer frames, carcass construction, and supporting structures.
Guided by experienced tutor Martin, you’ll receive extensive hands-on instruction in traditional methods used in classical furniture making. You’ll develop core skills in accurate marking, cutting, joining, and finishing – all without the use of power tools – and you’ll learn techniques to work safely, efficiently, and precisely.
