benchspace Bites – Drills 101 – Saturday Morning

This beginner class in our Bites Series aims to demystify the Drill.

The drill is probably the most commonly owned and used power tool today, but while access to them has never been easier many people fall into common pitfalls when trying to use them effectively!
We hope to build your confidence and understanding of the versatility of the drill, and get hands on experience and feedback with the guidance of with Woodwork Tutor Elaine.

If you would like to bring your own drill to learn specifically how to use it, please feel free.  If you don’t have your own drill, don’t worry - we have lots!

Materials are included in the cost of the workshop and no experience is necessary.
We are fully inclusive and all skill levels (Adult 18+) are welcome, however, please note that this course requires hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow precise instructions with regards to safety.

Here's what you'll Learn:
    • We aim to differentiate between drills, drivers, hammer drills and SDS drills.
    • We learn about the anatomy of our drills and understanding all their various functions, settings and limitations.
    • We look at drill bits and screwdriver heads, and learn how to select the right one needed for a given purpose.
    • We learn the difference between screws and bolts, nuts and washers, and talk about lots of different fixings.
    • We look at Forstner bits, and using them to create a small tealight holder to take home.

This class partners well with our How to Hang a Shelf class which runs on Saturday afternoons.
