Benchspace Bite – Make Sterling Silver Earrings – Saturday Afternoon

Benchspace Bites are fun, hands-on introductory sessions designed for beginners to explore a craft for the first time.  In just one class, you’ll learn fundamental techniques and create your very own piece — perfect for hobbyists, curious creatives, or anyone considering a future in making.

For your Ears Only!
Join tutor Nadine for a hands-on introduction to jewellery making, and in this 4-hour workshop you’ll design your own unique pair of sterling silver earrings — tailored entirely to your style.
You’ll start with a warm-up using copper to get a feel for the tools and techniques, before moving on to sterling silver.  Next – choose your style: studs or drops.  Then add texture, pattern, polish, and even mix your metals if you’re feeling bold.
Nadine will guide you step by step through the creative process, from raw material to wearable art and you will leave with a finished pair of earrings and the satisfying knowledge that you made them.

Who can Join:  This is a Beginner-Level class, suitable for Adults 18+ of all skill levels.  Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow safety instructions are essential.

What you’ll Learn:

• • Use a piercing saw
  • Form and shape metal on a mandrel
  • Metal texturing, using hammers and metal stamps
  • Metal forming and manipulation, using doming blocks and dappers
  • Wire forming
  • Soldering
  • Contrast finishes with silver oxidising liquid
  • Anneal silver and use a pickle bath
  • Use the pendant drill
  • Sand, finish, and polish your pieces

Where to Go:  This class is held in our BS1.5 workshop located at Eircode T12 KRH7.

What to Wear:  Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewellery and don’t forget to tie back long hair.  Closed toe shoes are required on all of our workshop floors.  If you need glasses for close up work, don’t forget to bring them.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):  PPE will be provided for all courses that require it.  It must be worn as directed.  All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
